If your stay is short and have only one day to be in Siem Reap Angkor or you only prefer to have just a day tour ,so here is my main suggestions itinerary for you :
Itinerary:
*AM : Start a visit to ANGKOR WAT- CITY OF THE TEMPLE: The most famous temple ground in the entire Angkor plain and the world largest religious building in stone .it rivals the seven wonders of the world .was built by a great Hindu king Suryavaraman II (the king of Conquering) in the early of 12th century between AD 1113-1150 over a period of about more than 30 years and dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu-the world maintainer. Suryavaraman II also marked the high point of the Khmer territorial expansion , like many other Khmer temples ,Angkor Wat was as architectural allegory of Hindu religion .The central tower stands for Mount Meru ,the core of Universe and home of the god ,the moat surrounding is the cosmic sea, the wall around is the mountain ranges and the causeway is the rainbow bridge ,separated Earth and Heaven .there are four entrances ,the western entrance counted as the official one.
After exploring the famous Angkor Wat , so then heading to visit the tree over crown Ta Prohm temple .built around year 1186 during the reign of the King Jayavaraman VII ,dedicated to his mother.Ta Prohm was originally constructed as a Buddhist monastery and was enormous wealthy in its time , boasting of control over 3000 villages, thousands of support staffs and vast stores of jewel and gold .the temple is left partially not much restored .the giant tree trunks reaching through the ancient temple building with their root hanging down in the shapes of the snakes or octopus .some insert between the stone joints cracking the stone apart .massive fig and silk -cotton trees grew from the tower and corridors offering some of the best ( tree -in -temple) photo opportunities at Angkor , so the visitors can enjoy this magic as a classic jungle ruin.
PM :After lunch take a ride to visit Angkor Thom -the City of the Great : Is a 3km by 3km walled and moated royal city and was the last great capital of the Angkorian empire .after the Jayavaraman VII (ruled from 1181 -1219) recaptured the Angkorian capital from Champa ( the former people of the central and southern part Vietnam before the 15th century ) invader between year 1177-1181 of the late 12th century .
After this, continue to visit Baphoun (1060-1066), the terraces of the elephants and leper king , north gate or south gate of Angkor Thom city .and before it dark heading to see the most favorite stone smiling face of the Bayon , was built by king Jayavaraman VII ,nearly 100 years after Angkor Wat . it's one of the stunning temples and sits in the middle of Angkor Thom .The temple (also known as the temple of mysterious enigmatic smiling gods ) is today best known for the gigantic face sculptures (over 200 of them in old time) .the faces are thought to be the composite of King Jayavaraman VII and the Buddhisattva Avalokitesvara (the lord of compassion) , A Buddhist deity .Facing in four directions on each tower ,the face signify the king's omnipresence ,watchful protection , and protecting benevolence outward to the four directions .........

This temple is ethereal in aspect and conjures up a romantic .trunks of the trees twist amongst stone pillars ,fig ,banyan and kapok trees spread their gigantic roots over ,under and between the stones ,probing walls and terrace apart,as their branches and leaves intertwine to form a roof above the structures.
PM : After lunch ,visit the victory gate of the ancient capital of Angkor Thom , the great city of all Angkorian empire ,built in late 12th century by Jayavaraman VII (AD1181-1220) with a 3km by 3km fortified walled and moated around and ornamented with huge 5 monumental gates ,decorated by the stone head of the Buddhisattva Avalokitesvara , the Lord of Compassion . and then continue to see the most smiling face built Bayon ,which almost sits in middle of its city walls .Bayon is a favorite monument among the visitors with its four faces on each tower.
DAY2 :
AM : Take one hour drive from your hotel to visit Banteay Srey temple( Citadel of women) -the mixture colors red pink ,yellow ,and dark brown made of harder sandstone with its very intricate carved .on the way back see and understand how the rural people (more than 80% of Cambodian people are subsistence rice farmers and poor) life is like and benefit for their living through year round .in rainy season you will see the lush green rice paddy fields everywhere , and dry season ,November - January can see they harvesting from their very yellow fields .and also visit a less crowded tourist temple called Banteay Samre .
PM : in the afternoon visit the great lake of Tonle sap -Known as the largest fresh water lake in S.E Asia and the riches fishing ground , enjoy your boat trip to the one of our four flooded villages .some of them living permanently on floating houses or boathouse and keep moving all year round up to the water level and some of them living in a high bamboo or sticks stilted skyscrapers and see more ,the floating churches, floating markets ,schools ,stores .fish &crocodile farms ,sunken forest ........on the way back visit artisan school and city tour .

PM : Visit the south gate of the old and last great capital city of Angkor Thom .surrounding by moat and wall 3km by 3km and one to be believed as the world largest ancient capital contained about a million people in its area .after this take a bit more time to exploring and photographing the most beautiful smiling face temple ,Bayon , was built in the center of Angkor Thom city dedicated to the Mahayana Buddhism in the late 12th century and early of 13th century .
and see more temples of Baphoun , royal palace enclosure ,Phomeanakas , the terraces of elephants and leper king .

AM : Visit the temples on the grand tour -:
Preah Khan (sacred sword) : It is an extensive monastic complex covering over 56 hectares built by the great Angkor Thom constructor, king JayavarmanVII, as a monastery and teaching complex. It is the historical site of the World Monuments Fund “prime” Asian project a painstaking renovation while maintaining its mysterious allures and superb original structure.
Neak Pean : It is a small man-made island temple which located in the middle of the last Baray called Jayatataka to be constructed by a famous Angkor constructor Jayavarman VII. It has only one sandstone tower which sits on a circular base in the center of the main pool that symbolizes the Anavatapata Lake in the Himalayas, situated at the top of the Universe, which gives birth to the 4 great rivers of the earth presented at Neak Pean. It originally known as Raja-srei, Neak pean takes its modern appellation, which means “coiled serpents” from the on coiled Nagas that encircled the temple. It dedicated to Buddha, Neak pean contains several Buddha images. It may have served as an ablution place, and the water was originally to have healing sickness.
East Mebon : East Mebon temple, was built about half a century earlier than the temple, by King YasovarmanI. The temple stands on what was once an island in the Eastern Baray, and was built by Rajendravarman II in the mid of 10th century as a shrine to his ancestors and temple’s divinity Rajendresvara was dedicated on Friday 28 January 953. It was once a large temple-mountain-like ruin, rising three levels and crowned by 5 brick towers, which are in quincunx arrangement.
Pre rup temple : It was erected in the year of 961 AD during the reign of king Rajendravarman II, dedicating to the Shiva-God and his ancestors. It is a pyramid temple-mountain which stands on a high base with three narrow tiers serves as a pedestal for 5 brick towers, which are set in quincunx-arrangement. The brick towers were originally once decorated with a plaster coating, fragments of which still remain on the towers. Pre Rup was used as the state temple of the king Rajendravarman I. Pre Rup means “Turning the Body” and refers to a traditional method of cremation in which a corpse’s outline is traced in the cinders, first in one direction and then in the other, this suggests that the temple may have served as an early royal crematorium. This is one of the most popular sunset spots around Angkor, as the view over the surrounding rice fields of the Eastern Baray is beautiful.
PM : Visit the far away temple built of pinkish sandstone Banteay Srey or lady temple-:The brilliant beauty and enchantment of Banteay Srei is nearly everyone’s favorite temple. The special charm of this small temple lies in its remarkable state of preservation and excellence is of decoration. It is a Hindu temple which dating from the mid 10th century. It was built of selected hard-pink sandstone comprising three towers which stood on side-by-side on a common low base. on the way back visit the temple of Banteay Samre temple: dated from the same period as Angkor Wat and was built by SuryavarmanII 1113-1150, dedicating to Vishnu. Banteay Samre is one of the most complete complex at Angkor due to restoration (1936-1944) by the French Team using the method of Anastylosis work, although its isolation has resulted in some looting during the past two decades.
DAY3 :
AM : heading to the east of siem reap town to visit the very old three temples at the early capital of Hariharalaya or today known as the Rolous group .
Preah Ko temple(sacred bull) :it located at Rolous Group and lies half way between Lolei and Bakong. The temple was built in 9th century 879 by King Indravarman I 877-889. It consisted of a group of 6 brick towers stood on a low base and arranged in two rows, the front and the back rows. They were dedicating to the memory of some royal ancestors, the front towers for the paternal ancestors or Gods and the three behind for maternal ancestors or Goddess.
Each of the six towers was originally covered with elaborate coating of stucco. It was one of the first major temples of the empire at the early Khmer capital of Hari-Haralaya.-
Bakong :Bakong is the state temple of IndravarmanI 877-889 at Hari-Haralaya, the capital utilized by JayavarmanII just before he removed his capital, Mahendraparvata down from Kulen Mountain in 850. Bakong was the most impressive and significant temple mountain at Rolous group, sitting at the centre of the first Angkor Ian capital named Hari-Haralaya. It has one tower stands on a high sandstone pyramid base with the 5 levels which symbolizes M.t-Meru, and the temple was dedicated to Shiva-God. The 5 levels leading to the central sanctuary extend the symbolism, and correspond to the worlds of mythical beings: Nagas, Garudas, Rakshasas, Yakshas and Maharajas. The temple is enclosed within three separate concentric walls and a moat. There are well-preserved statues of stone elephants on each corner of the first three levels of the central temple. There are 12 shrines on the fourth level. The sanctuary on the fifth level was a later addition during the reign of King SuryavarmanII, in the style of Angkor Wat’s tower and continue to visit the very ruin state temple Lo Lei built in 893ad.
PM : Take a boat tour to see one of our Siem Reap four different fishing & floating villages on the grand lake of Ton Le sap .the largest fresh water lake in southeast Asia .its size is about 150km long and 35 km wide .in the rainy season when the water swelled up a triple of its size compare to the dry season ,the lake does look like a small sea (about 12000 sq km =wet season , dry season =~2500sq km.)

After breakfast ,taking a an hour drive through the Cambodian country side to visit the old Hindu temple from mid-10th century (AD967 ) -built of beautiful pinkish sandstone and the most intricately carved .its named Banteay Srey or lady temple .on the way back visit the landmine museum ,villages and Pre Rup temple (AD961).
PM- Visit the temples on the grand circuit - East MeBon (AD 952) , Ta Som , Neak Pean and Preah Khan .
DAY3 :
AM - Heading to the east of Siem Reap town to visit the three older temples at the early capital of Haraharalaya or today known as Rolous group . Preah Ko , Bakong and Lo Lei temple .

This Tonle Sap lake is the largest lake in Southeast Asia and also the riches fishing ground . the house villages looks very unique because it is high up to the air with its small sticks stilted .some houses can be 6-8 m high( we called them Cambodian skyscrapers).

PM - Visit the main Hindu temple Angkor Wat -the city of the temple. it said to be the world's largest religious warship building and one of the best human creation in the whole world .It was built by king Suryavaraman II (AD1113-1150). dedicated to Vishnu god- god of world maintainer . sunset on the hilltop of Phnom Bakheng .
DAY2 :
AM - Get up early morning to capture the sunrise view at the Angkor Wat temple from the west gate and then go the east side to shooting more photo for different lights before it get too bright . breakfast
After breakfast ,taking a an hour drive through the Cambodian country side to visit the old Hindu temple from mid-10th century (AD967 ) -built of beautiful pinkish sandstone and the most intricately carved .its named Banteay Srey or lady temple .on the way back visit the landmine museum ,villages and Pre Rup temple (AD961).
PM- Visit the temples on the grand circuit - East MeBon (AD 952) , Ta Som , Neak Pean and Preah Khan .
DAY3 :
AM - Heading to the east of Siem Reap town to visit the three older temples at the early capital of Haraharalaya or today known as Rolous group . Preah Ko , Bakong and Lo Lei temple .
Pm - Visit the silk farm -silk hand weaving and the whole procession of silk works and city tour ...
DAY4:
