Cambodia Visa Types :
Tourist Visa (Type T) :
The “Tourist” visa is the most popular type of Cambodia Visa which is issued to visitors who are on Holiday in Cambodia. You can obtain the visa by either the Cambodia Visa on Arrival, Cambodia E-Visa or visa in advance from a Cambodian Embassy .
Ordinary Visa (Type E) :
The “Ordinary” visa is used for people doing business in Cambodia or foreign employees working in Cambodia. Students studying in Cambodia will also need this type of visa. The “Ordinary” visa is also known as the “Business” Visa.
Official Visa (Type B) :
The “Official” visa is used by people working for international organizations or working with registered Non Government Organizations (NGO’s). These visas must be agreed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Cambodia “Official” visa is not easily obtained, and you are best to get the organization you are working for to obtain the visa in advance for you. You may see “BF” type visa in some people's passports that obtain this visa. The extra “F” means your visa has been extended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The “Official” visa is quite often called the “NGO” visa. This visa is issued free.
Courtesy Visa (Type C) :
The “Courtesy” visa is only issued to people who have been invited to Cambodia by one of the government departments. As the visa is “Courtesy” visa, the visa is issued free.
Diplomatic Visa (Type A) :
The “Diplomatic” visa is issued to people holding diplomatic passports. It is also issued to any dependents of the person holding the Diplomatic passport. The “Diplomatic” visa is issued free.
Special “K” Visa (Type K) :
The Cambodia Special “K” visa is for people with foreign passports who were born in Cambodia. To be eligible for the Special “K” visa, you must have at least one parent who is a Cambodian national. When entering Cambodia you must be traveling with your Cambodian parent to obtain the Special “K” visa. You and your Cambodian parent must both have your Cambodian birth certificates with you. The Special “K” visa is issued free and the visa is indefinite. The Cambodia ”Special K” visa is issued free.
Transit Visa (Type D) :
The “Transit” visa is only issued to people in transit who traveling onto another destination.
Cambodia Border Crossings and Entry Points:
There are numerous entry points and border crossings into Cambodia, however there are only 16 entry points/border crossings which foreigners are allowed to enter if they have the right visa type and documentation. Please note there is only one border crossing between Laos and Cambodia. Below we have listed the 16 entry points in order of popularity.
Siem Reap Airport :
Siem Reap Airport is one of the main entry points into Cambodia and probably the busiest. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival at Siem Reap Airport, you can also use the Cambodia E-Visa at this entry point.
Phnom Penh Airport:
Phnom Penh Airport is another main entry point into Cambodia and one of the busiest. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival at Phnom Penh Airport, you can also use the Cambodia E-Visa at this entry point.
Poipet Land Border Crossing:
This is the main land border crossing from Thailand into Cambodia via the town of Aranya Prathet on the Thai side. Most nationalities can get Cambodia Visas on Arrival and also enter using the Cambodia E-Visa. If you are crossing at this border we recommend you obtain the Cambodia E-Visa.
Ko Kong Land Border Crossing :
Ko Kong is a very popular land crossing into Cambodia from Thailand via the town of Hak Lek which is about a 1 hour journey from car to Trat. This border crossing is very popular if you are heading to Sihanouk ville or you are arriving in Cambodia coming from Koh Chang in Thailand. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival at this border crossing, however we recommend you obtain the Cambodia E-Visa if you are entering at this entry point.
Bavet Land Border Crossing:
Bavet is the main land crossing into Cambodia from Vietnam via the town of Moc Bai. This is by far the easiest way to enter Cambodia from Vietnam and vice versa. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival at this border crossing and you can also enter using the Cambodia E-Visa. For people heading to Vietnam, most nationalities need to get the Vietnam Visa in advance before their enter Vietnam.
Trapaing Kriel Land Border Crossing:
Trapaing Kriel is the ONLY border crossing now from Laos into Cambodia via the Nang Nok Kieng checkpoint on the Laos side of the border. Please note it long no longer possible to cross the border via Dom Kralor. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival at this border crossing. Most nationalities can also get a Laos visa on arrival if you are entering Laos from Trapaing Kriel. The Cambodia E-Visa can NOT be used at this border crossing.
Pailin Land Border Crossing:
Pailin (Phsar Prom) is one of the main land border crossings from Thailand into Cambodia via Ban Packard in Chanthuburi province in Thailand but is as popular as Poipet or Koh Kong crossings. Please note there are actually two border crossings near to Pailin with the other one been Daun Lem via Ban Laem, however although it is possible to enter via either crossing we strongly recommend you use the one into Pailin (Phsar Prom). Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival via the Pailin border crossings. Cambodia E-Visa can NOT be used at either of these border crossings.
Kaam Samnor River/Land Border Crossing:
Kaam Samnor is a very popular border crossing from Vietnam into Cambodia via the town of Vinh Xuong in Vietnam or better known as the Chau Doc Mekong river route/crossing. If you intend to visit Cambodia by the boat route from Vietnam then this is the crossing you will need to use. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival at this entry point. The Cambodia E-Visa can’t be used at this entry point. For people heading to Vietnam, most nationalities need to get the Vietnam Visa in advance before their enter Vietnam.
O’Smach Land Border Crossing :
O’Smach is a border crossing from Thailand into Cambodia via Chong Jom in Thailand. O’Smach is not a particularly a popular land crossing but it is useful if you are travelling from or to Surin in Thailand. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival at this border crossing. Cambodia E-Visa can NOT be used at this entry point.
Anlong Veng Land Border Crossing :
Anlong Veng is a quiet border crossing from Thailand into Cambodia via Chong Sa Ngam in Thailand. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Aisa on Arrival. The Cambodia E-visa is not available at this entry point.
Phnom Den Land Border Crossing :
Phnom Den is another border crossing from Vietnam into Cambodia via Tinh Bien which is around 10km south of Chau Doc on the Vietnam side of the border. This is not as popular as the river crossing to Chau Doc but it is still quite popular for people heading to Kampot or Takeo in Cambodia. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival. The Cambodia E-Visa is NOT available at this entry point. For people heading to Vietnam, most nationalities need to get the Vietnam Visa in advance before their enter Vietnam.
Prek Chak Land Border Crossing :
Prek Chak is a relatively new border crossing from Vietnam to Cambodia via the coastal route via the town of Xa Xia (Ha Tien) on the Vietnam side of the border. This crossing is very popular for people coming from Phu Quoc Island via Rach Gia in Vietnam or for people heading to Phu Quoc Island coming from either Kep or Kampot on the Cambodian side of the border. Kep and Kampot are both only a short drive to this border crossing. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival. The Cambodia E-Visa is NOT available at this entry point. For people heading to Vietnam, most nationalities need to get the Vietnam Visa in advance before their enter Vietnam.
Trapeang Phlong Land Border Crossing :
Trapeang Phlong border crossing is a relatively quiet entry point from Vietnam to Cambodia via Xa Mat on the Vietnam side of the border. Trapeang Phlong is very close to the town of Kompong Cham in Cambodia. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival. The Cambodia E-Visa is NOT available at this entry point. For people heading to Vietnam, most nationalities need to get the Vietnam Visa in advance before their enter Vietnam.
Trapeang Sre (Snoul) Land Border Crossing :
Trapeang Sre border crossing is another relatively quiet entry point from Vietnam to Cambodia via Bonue in the Binh Phuoc province of Vietnam. Trapeang Sre is located near the town of Snoul and not far from the bigger town of Kratie. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival. The Cambodia E-Visa is NOT available at this entry point. For people heading to Vietnam, most nationalities need to get the Vietnam Visa in advance before their enter Vietnam.
O’Yadav Land Border Crossing:
O’Yadav border crossing is a very quiet border crossing (for foreigners) from Vietnam to Cambodia via Le Thanh crossing on the Vietnam side near the town Pleiku. O’Yadav is around 70km from the town of Ban Lung in the Rattanakiri province so this border crossing is a very quiet crossing due to its remoteness. Most nationalities can get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival. The Cambodia E-Visa is NOT available at this entry point. For people heading to Vietnam, most nationalities need to get the Vietnam Visa in advance before their enter Vietnam.
Sihanouk ville Port Entry :
Very few people will enter Cambodia via the Sihanouk ville port unless there are traveling with a package holiday ship cruise where their Cambodia Visa has been arranged prior to arrival. There are little if any ways of arriving into Sihanouk ville from other destinations in Cambodia or from Vietnam or Thailand. There is NO Cambodia Visa on Arrival from this entry point nor can you use a Cambodia E-Visa.
Land Border Crossing:
Opening times Most of the main land border crossings open from 8:00am to 8:00pm, however we advise you arrive at these border crossings before 7:00pm as many close early without warning. Many of the less busy entry points close around 6pm. Please note that the quieter border crossings can be so quiet that it is difficult to get transport anywhere once on the other side the border. We advise people who using these quiet borders to arrive as early in the morning as possible.
